What color transmission supposed to be

Any color other than brown or black. Most transmission fluid (which is nothing more than petroleum-based hydraulic oil), is either reddish-pink, light blue, or even clear. Brown or dark, burnt looking or smelling fluid indicates either contamination, overheating, or both.
