This is the only Mission at which it is actually known that St. Junipero Serra actually celebrated Mass in the Historic Serra Chapel, which is the oldest standing structure in California. Also every March 19th the famous Swallows of Capistrano return to nest on the Mission grounds and finally this Mission is one of 3 in California to have been founded twice along with San Gabriel and La Puríssima Concepción.
