There's a chance that your kitty picked it up from another visiting animal there but i highly doubt it was from the surgery room or anywhere like that. I've brought multiple dogs of my own, along with a few handfuls of fosters there and have never had a flea issue after. As with all infestations, bathe your cat in Dawn dish soap (2 weeks after surgery), throw all blankets and pillows in the washing machine and vacuum every corner. You can also get something called Diamtious Earth (I know that's spelled wrong but Google it). It doesn't hurt our furry animals but kills anything with an exoskeleton.
What most likely happened was she was near a stray cat/kitten while she was in the waiting area. They take in strays for a catch and release to try and control populations if they are to feral to be adopted. I suggest a bath with dish soap, its safe for most animals (dogs, cats, ducks, ect but some can be allergic so do a patch test) just wait until she is fully healed from her stitches.
The SPCA for Monterey County (Owner) I gave no complaint, as it's good to question everything. Nor did I bring my kitten to a shelter, it was for surgery/vaccinations for a neuter appt. 4hrs max So I'm pretty sure all the animals were not treated in the room. Thanks for the Empathy. Jacob from the Spca was very helpful and took my situation at hand with a lot of respectability and compassion, Thankyou Jacob you saved the day! I will continue to support my Spca. Be aware that fleas are becoming resistant to certain types of chemicals, knowledge is power.
Hi Sherry - we've never received a complaint like this. All our shelter pets are on flea treatment from the moment they arrive. Can you please call our clinic at 831-264-5400?
