Is this place kid friendly? I like to plan small trips for our family but not sure if it would be fun for and 8 year old and 1 year old. Also, what is there to do besides stop by the pastry shops? It's a 2 hours drive for us.

It is kid friendly. There are a bunch of different shop and a lot of them have toys. There are also shops that sell candy and ice cream.

We were especially captivated by a shop by a shop called ***DEL SOL*** we were well recieved by warm shop keepers. I was amazed at the patience and courtesy that they showed to families that had messy and unruly children. We were a 3 generation family of 10. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DEL SOL AND SOLVANG, CA

There are lots of shops of all kinds pastries, candy, cheese, wine, etc. They have an ostrich bird farm just outside of Solvang. There is a little park in the town where you can relax and have a picnic. But only you know what levels of entertainment your kids need. I would check the city guide to see what events they have going on in the area. Last time I was there they had one of the best car shows I have been to. They have a market on one day of the week that is nice for shopping local. I can't remember if it was Saturday or Tuesday.

I passed through here when I did a California road trip, was a cool little Danish town, didn't seem like there was actually much to do aside from what you mentioned!
