The train is a very interesting piece of history. When we were there, a volunteer was available to explain many of the functions and uses on board. Some things you could see but not enter. Some functionality had been locked. You could view the coal car and engine area but could not go into them. There was also a streetcar to climb into and sit in. A model landscape behind glass had railroad tracks with a running train as well as explanations of the stops in the town.
Yes there are real trains. You can walk through a lounge car, sleeper cars and see the difference between the upper and lower class seating. My son got a kick out of the teeny tiny toilets and sinks in the sleeper cars. There is also an engine that they can climb up stairs to look into but you cannot climb into the engine itself. There is also a streetcar that the kids can enter and sit down in and see how people used to travel.
