They will give you apps to practice for the permit test, but it is better for you if you get the permit before starting. You will not be able to drive a truck off of the training lot without it and your dot physical.
I am currently taking the course, the first week covers all information needed to pass the exam questions you would take at dmv for the permit. After that you will learn pre-trip and the backing maneuvers (90 degree, straight back, and offset) as well as driving manual on the roads. Great instructors guaranteed cdl.
