Don’t use self checkouts... that’s why companies cut back people’s jobs. Low wage or not. Use the line. Better yet, don’t go to Walmart and support their lack of enough employees strategy.
I can only guess that it's greed. Walmart is a billion dollar company but they are so greedy they only want to pay the low salary to just a few employees to cash out customers. That is guess on this matter.
Because of poor management and lack of common sense.They couldn't run a lemonade stand.This Walmart sucks. Never enough registers open. Been there many of times in the evening and they have one register open besides the self check outs. I go to Food Lion now, much better shopping there.

I feel your pain. This happens every morning. One register open with a long line. And if self checkout is open, the scale is not working so it asks you to not bag every single item you scan.
The self checkouts close after a certain time in the evening. That’s when they have one line open and a line of 20+ people.
They have self checkouts on each end of the store
I use the self checkout lines. Super quick and never really have to wait. They are on each end.
Never experienced only one open.But what it does have is at least (6) self service check outs.That may solve your problem!
