I dug up 30 feet of ugly hedges from front of house. I also have a tile roof, therefore no gutters. When it rains the dripping water from the roof makes a trough in the soil. Should I use mulch and plant flowers? Will mulch kill flowers?

Mulch won't kill flowers but you might want to consider gravel or rock since it will stay in place better after rain.

I have Azaleas with Pintas planted in front of them. I mulched around them and they are growing well.
