Yes, there are $FREE small play bins scattered around the store and a play room at the back of the store, but the primary purpose of LEGO Stores is for "shopping" and that is what most of the store is geared towards. All LEGO stores also have a $FREE monthly building event for kids that you MUST sign-up for ahead-of-time as they can fill up quick.
if you go on the weekends, playarea is normally booked with birthday parties and staff are too busy
The Lego Store near the FlatIron Building does have a build room that children can sign up for
The store has many LEGO models to see but I did not see any play area.
There are statues made of Legos as well as sets and a room with some open Legos to play with but there are no activities.
