That is because they make everything as it's ordered. It's not like other fast food restaurants (who can be slower to be honest) who have a bunch cooked up and that's all you get. I like that I can order my burger medium-well and know it's real beef.
Be able to order your burger the way you like is great! Plus, the special running right now of a Double Cheeseburger and Fries for only $2.99 is an AWESOME deal!
It's a bit slower than McDonald's but that's because you're getting fresh cooked to order food. It's worth it.
I agree the service is slow. It can be ridiculously slow on a late night when there's hardly anybody even in the dining room. This is partially because they do a fairly brisk drive-thru service (which is also ridiculously slow at times). Most fast food corporate policy now strives for priority to drive-thru, because this is an extremely competitive area in food service. Drive-thru business has grown exponentially in recent years, and everybody who pulls up has many choices of where to go, so most fast food restaurants now prioritize drive-thru speed over speed of service inside. Bathrooms - I've seen both. Tonight, a Thursday, I was in a very busy Steak N Shake just off an interstate at about midnight. It was very clean. This restaurant chain has never modified their interior design theme. Like Waffle House, all of the locations are pretty much identical. They rarely remodel, so many older restaurants will have restrooms that start off looking kind of bad even before they get messy!
