It's good for canoeing....I've been going for about 30 years...I wouldn't recommend paddle boarding without being very familiar with the river..... There obviously is a current, fallen trees and obstacles… also..there are alligators. A woman got her arm bitten off swimming in the wrong area a few years back. I suggest you go canoeing a few times before deciding on paddleboarding there. It's a beautiful river...enjoy it.
Go to Weikiva Springs to launch! Just call them for the price.
My daughter and I paddle boarded there a couple months back. It was lovely. There were also a lot of paddleboarders and kayakers. Going from the island to the Springs is a stronger paddle, but the return is easy peasy.. We did see a small alligator on a bank. But, my understanding is they pretty much leave paddle boarders alone. I think it was like $10? to launch. We paddled tothe springs, beached our boards, went for a swim, paddled back to the Island and visited their bar.
