Go on in and explain your situation to a manager. Should be able to get it exchanged. Should be able to do it at a cashier. Just get item you really want first. People at door should have something to mark your return
They will not. A limited window of time is part of their strategy to reduce returns and refunds. I think that their return policy is one of the leading reasons amazon is outperforming them.
Call FIRST. When you arrive, they should have general knowledge about the reason for your visit. Even if there is not a manager present, a customer service manager, a CSM, should be there. If not one of the cashiers should have a key that a CSM would usually have and might be able to do the transaction for you. However, stores vary by location But, I've never had a problem, even in the middle of the night , exchanging, returning or refunding my money; granted I have the original receipt & the merchandise doesn't look "in question".
Call Wal Mart
You really need to call them.
