I see in today’s Observer that you are returning a rare(to our area) snowy owl to VT today. Why not let people know about this so we could see the owl ? A great opportunity missed!

The health and rehabilitation of raptors is always our biggest priority. Like a lot of the injured or sick birds that come to Carolina Raptor Center the Snowy Owl was treated at the hospital and only kept on our secluded rehab trail. The birds that live at CRC on the public trail for guests are our raptor ambassadors and permanent residents because they can't be released either because of injury or imprinting. The Snowy was never on the public trail and was secluded even from non-essential staff. We were very worried about the bird's recovery as it was malnourished and out of it's native habitat, so a lot of care had to go into it's recovery. This meant keeping the bird as stress free as possible. Trust us we'd love to have a Snowy at CRC for everyone to see but because NC can get so hot outside of winter it's not feasible without harming or distressing the bird. But keep an eye out in the coming year for new and exciting birds at our flight shows and encounters!

Dont know the answer. Or the owl, but its health is the utmost concern. It may have not been on display for exactly that reason. Being on display may have been detrimental to its recovery. I would have loved to see it. Will forego the experience for the birds sake.....just a thought.....

They're more concerned with nursing the birds back to health than media exposure. It would be nice to have known for sure and it may increase donations to the center if they improved in that area. Requests like yours may shine more of a light on the issue. Have a good day 😊
