If you are on waiting list do you go to find a place or does housing let you know when one is available. Curious my neighbor said you look for one

Depending on what list you are on. If you are on the section 8 waiting list you just have to wait for a letter stating you have reached the top if the list. Than you have to come in for a screening to see if you income qualify, for section8 you are responsible for finding the unit to house in.. Public housing they will send you a letter when you reach the top as well and only for public housing you are able to call and check your waitlist number. Hope this was helpful

Once you reach the top of the list and receive a voucher, you must find a landlord willing to accept it. You only have a certain amount of time to find a place also. No small feat in this housing market. If you don't, you forfeit your voucher. I'm not sure, but I think it's 3 months.
