Cranberry Glades is an area where there is a huge variety of animals and plants, many of which should not grow in this part of the world. It is accessible by a boardwalk. It is surrounded by the Cranberry Wilderness, a National Wilderness Preservation System of over 47,000 acres.
Its an upland bog that feeds the Cranberry river. There are lots of plants and animals that are normally seen much further north that grow and live here. Some are unique, like the blue crayfish. There is an accessible boardwalk over a part of the bog that makes for an enjoyable hike.
The Cranberry Glades Botanical Area protects the largest area of bogs in West Virginia. There is a boardwalk for viewing the bogs. Additionally, there are numerous hiking and exploring attractions in the area. Worth the stop if you're close by doing other outdoor activities.
Its for tourism. Its like a natural rainforest type environment. There are plants that grow there that dont anywhere else locally.
