Maybe you are thinking about Aki's, which was on Meridian, near San Carlos. Dick's Bakery, also known for their Burnt Almond Cake, had a location further south on Meridian. I don't recall if that had always been their location.
I believe Peter's Bakery actually used to actually be off of San Carlos in downtown SJ some years back, but then moved over to East SJ.
