If you are concerned about wait time and the injury or illness is relatively minor (doesn't need X-ray's or extensive diagnostic testing) try an urgent care center outside of your primary care doctors hours. Also, many insurance companies offer a telladoc option now where you can call a hotline and ask medical advise.
No telling depends on how busy they are and mainly how hurt you are but unless you're bleeding out or in agony most E.R. just tell you to go see your family practitioner
