Diatamatious earth will kill all the eggs nesting in your carpet. Since it's powder it seeps into rugs but doesn't work great for smooth surfaces. It's best to use a combination or treatments but always end with the diatamatious earth to kill the eggs.
I've never heard of using diatamatious earth for fleas there is a food grade material and a non- food grade which is used in swimming pools it's good for keeping ants away because it scratches the ants exo- skeleton. Food grade is used for chickens and livestock for digestive bactetias don't know if home improvement center is your best bet I know it's expensive but works well for 6 to 8 months advantage flee & tick treatment good luck
I have no idea, ask a vet to be safe.
