Primitive camping? Do you have to reserve a year in advance like the national/state parks? Are there vehicles trails? My girlfriend can't hike very long distances because of a knee injury. Could we putt putt around the trails on a motorcycle?

Definitely don't need much notice to reserve tent camping. Go to website and create your account and then you will be able to put your dates in up to 7 days at a time... And it will tell you if they are reserved or not. I don't think you can take motorized vehicles on the trails though at least not without special permission. However all that information is also on the website I skimmed over it myself as I was not personally looking for it in the past so I'm not for certain.
