When separating the cloves for planting, do you leave the skins on, or plant 'em bare necked??

Try and leave them on, but if some of them come off it's ok to plant them.

I separated and planted about two inches deep. The one with the skin that came off I used for cooking . The only ones I planted had skins on . Don't know if it's right or wrong but that's how I did it. I planted two weeks ago. Have fun
