I stayed in Burlington, downtown area for the earth fair in Essex Junction last year. I would not consider the downtown hotels cheap but there are reasonably priced ones around the outskirts of Burlington that would put u in easy driving distance (12 minutes or so)

I'm sorry, I'm not the best person to ask, I don't live near there, so I don't go to any hotels in that area. Look up hotels in the area.
