Officer of the law, no. You need to go to the academy, take a state exam and get hired and sworn in at a law enforcement agency to be an "officer of the law." But assault (which is threatening to do harm and having the means to actually do so) is illegal and arrestable if done so against everyone, not just law enforcement officers.
