Hello Dr. Deepa, I seen your segment on baynews and wanted to ask what do you think about sugar and why we should think about removing that from our diet as well or should we.

hi Debbie. any refined and processed sugars should be avoided as best as possible. of course, we are human, so here and there is fine, but daily consumption is damaging. especially high fructose corn syrups and sodas and juices. artificial sweeteners are the worst. i advise my patients to read the ingredients however, natural sugars found in fruits are fine, but in limited quantities. there are many types of sugars, and i go through that with patients. if you would like to make an appointment, please call the office at 727.754.2936. have a happy day!

You should not remove sugar from your diet... it would be drastic, unhealthy and nearly impossible to do. It’s essential to the human body; fruit, vegetables, rice, etc all metabolize as mostly sugar. Simple sugars found in processed foods, however, are harmful and unnecessary in the body as well as addictive. But fear not! If you maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle, it’s probably okay to have that cookie or soda when you feel like it.
