Adobe bricks & roof tiles with the help of locals.

Mission San Buenaventura is made from adobe (sun-dried mud and straw bricks). After the massive earthquake of 1812, however, many of Mission's buildings were severely damaged by both the quake and a tidal wave. The Mission was rebuilt in 1816. During each construction, the Mission would have been built using the labor of the local Chumash tribe. As neophytes (converts) they were taught the trades necessary to construct the Mission buildings and tile roofs.
