Take your kids, buy supplies and expose them to the world of knitting. Great store with kind helpful teachers.
If said kiddo wants to learn how to knit or crochet, you will want to buy tools and yarn at the shop. They have really good teachers, and imho, it's easier to learn with good tools rather than junk. And yes, as long as the child is old enough to enjoy the lesson, they'll work with you (most stores want a child to be able to read... About 6 or so is the common minimum... I'm not sure what Knitting Tree's minimum is...)
