The bird's were evacuated and they are safe..as well as the ranger and the family at the entrance of the park.
I am the Park Host @ Steckel. Animal Control came to the Aviary and did not have room at the Fairgrounds to evacuate them. They offered to help water down the structure. The fire move so fast, we only had time to move some of our belongings and a few of the larger birds. They are safe and staying at a hanger at the SP Airport, as is my family(Thank you Judy!). I stayed here to take care of the rest of the birds. We lost water & power so County Parks(Thanks Jim!) brings fresh water for me & the birds. So far, EVERY bird is ALIVE and NONE were set free. I started cleaning the Aviary yesterday in anticipation of re-opening in the near future. There were some spot fires throughout the Park, but nothing major. KOA and County Yard are gone. Hope to see you all soon! PS: DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE DAY USE AREA! PSS: You may have them on a 6 foot leave, but ONLY IF YOU ARE CAMPING and ONLY AT THE CAMPGROUND!
I'M pretty sure if the keepers had any sence they moved the birds from any danger . I would be pretty disappointed if they didn't cause I didn't waste my time on helping rebuild that cage .
Thanks so much to John & Cathy for caring for the birds, & to Judy. Please let the community know how we can help. God Bless you.
Were they set free in the fire area??? Or were they taken to a sanctuary or a place to take animals during the fire????
Thank God...I really worried about them, so happy they were evacuated and are safe!!
