My DL renewal is due this month, so I uploaded all ID information online in order to obtain Real ID. I received a confirmation number to show at the desk at the DMV. Can I walk in, or do I need an appointment?

It is possible, but your better off if yoy can come right after tge 8:30 Rush so about 9:15 AM or right after Noon lunch Rush
