It certainly does depend when it comes to a California dog bite. On dog bites in California, we look to the owner of the dog that bit for recovery, and determine if they are a business, or private person. Thus, we look for any and all liability insurance coverage based on those facts. Is the dog owner a business? Then we look to any business insurance coverage. Is the dog owner a private person that owns a home? Then we look to any home owner's insurance coverage. Is the dog owner a renter? Then we look to an any renter's insurance coverage, and whether there is any landlord exposure (very difficult in CA). When that is all exhausted, then we pursue the dog owner privately to recover for damages. Hope this helps! Mark Blane, Attorney-at-Law
