I travel alot on both airlines to and from the us. When you start your travel . I would ask at the american airlines ckeck in counter if you can send your bag dirrectly to your destination without going through customs . The one thing wou will have to do. Is inmigration. And that can take a long time . Since your flight is so tight. You can ask people in the line to let you go through. They usually do. Hope you have a good flight wherever you are going.
You should have given a baggage number you go on a a website and you put it in it would tell you if your bags were transferred. It's hard to say if it's enough time because you don't know how long the lines going to be an immigration

It should be enough time make sure you get your bags quickly. Confirm with an AA agent if your bags are transferred, I believe they are NOT. The airport website has more details about connecting flights.
