Ok my father was the affiliates relations manager at ABC TV New York in the seventies but we never really had the chance to learn about movies etc we want to see the old western or studios

If you're a movie or talk show fan, such as Ellen Show or Batman trilogy, this is the place you want to go. As Nate said, the tour will guide you through the entire studio and you can take your time to wonder around after the tour guide finishes. Considering your father was manager in the 70s, this is a better choice over universal studios, due to its gently paced fashion and not so crowded environment. PS: do bring some questions with you, because the introduction given by your guide may vary by how audience response. Last time I visit, we had a fairly active group of people with lots of questions, so the tour was pretty fun and I learned a lot.
