R means restricted, anyone under the age of 17 needs to be with an adult 21 years or older. The Motion Picture Industry wants to or is making an effort to protect our under aged audience from unnecessary prolonged exposure to nudity, excessive violence, perversion etc. Whatever you expose your mind to over a long period of time effects an individual mentally, how they perceive themselves and others over time. Whether exposure to Negative images or Positive Images affects the thought patterns.
You need to have an actual adult with you. I tried many times with my own kids when they were similar ages but under 17 only to have them turned away. These are the official guidelines from the Motion Pictures Association of America: Rated R: Restricted – under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian.
