Unfortunately this is an all too common problem! Tehama County does not have the resources to regulate cats, and their are no ordinances in place restricting cats to stay on their owners property. With that many cats, it is likely that someone in your neighborhood is feeding the cats. We would recommend talking with that person to help coordinate trapping and fixing the feral cats, to eliminate reproducing and keep the males from spraying. In addition, if there are friendly cats that would make good pets for people, you can call us and request to be added to the cat waiting list. Good luck!
Start by trapping and fixing all cats. Sounds difficult? I had same problem in paradise Calif due to new neighbors who only had 4 cats. It bloomed up to 33 cats in only 2 years. I found a volunteer company who took care of it. The camp fire took the lives of the last 5 cats.
Have you called the shelter for help?
