It's a legality. If they give you a new battery and there is more wrong then just the battery the warranty from the maker is void.
Call the Home Office and complain. Then call the company and complain about Lowes. Those things have sat in a warehouse for long time.
From my experience with Lowes, they will try and find a loophole to void your warrant. Homedepot is a much better place to go in my opinion. I'm sorry that happened to you. I would recommend calling the company that manufacturers your generator
