Go to Florida Gun center and rent a weapon of your choosing @ 1770 W 38th Pl, Hialeah, FL 33012, you will get a feel of the weapon which suits you.
I will say a 380 glock, Smith & Wesson bodyguard, or curve from Taurus is an option to start but always the best to do is go to a gun range and try what she might like. Also a gun with a safety is a good option for beginners as a safe way to go until she controls the weapon
I agree 100% you should go to the range get a Feeling before you purchase. All handle different.
You should definitely go to a range that let's you rent and try different hand guns. Before anything, I would consider a gun safety class. It's really not as simple as recommending a weapon, because one size does not fit all.
I can recommend a couple of things first take a class so that you have some knowledge of the weapon. I would also recommend that you take a knowledgeable person with you. Once you done that you need to feel the weapon in your hands.
Ok a 380 caliber is in my opinion the best and easy for a woman but like Jean said you should take her to the range so she can be familiar with a gun, remember a gun is not a toy
In that store they will give you all the information you need.
Before you just go and buy a gun I'll recommend you go to the gun range first and see what you're comfortable with.
