Usually, but there can be a couple of issues. If there is no bar code, they have no way to check whether or not they carry that item. You can have them scan an identical item from their store if there is one. Also, they check your ID because they have a six-month limit on exchanges and returns without the receipt.
Exactly I went through the same thing. As long as the item was purchased and not stolen and they will provide in-store credit
Yes I've had this happen before and they just checked the system to see if a said item was purchased there.
