"The Island" is outstanding for shopping and eating. So many choices and you can park behind Margaritaville and take tram in if walking is too much. Was there for Rock the Smokies, rented a cabin and had a great time.

Yes. The entire area around the ferris wheel is free to enter. Of course the rides around it and the ferris wheel itself cost money. There are shops as well. "The Island" is best, in our opinion, after sunset because of the lights and of course it is cooler. The water fountains are lit by lights at night. We went just before dark and rode the ferris wheel twice, once before dark and once after. The views are really amazing.
