You definitely must have the card with you. They don't do exceptions.

You absolutely must have an original SS card with no damages, lamination, tape etc on it. No photocopies. All original documents. You just have another photo identification that is state issued also to show with the ss card. Otherwise a valid and not expired passport that is a US passport is a valid document and you don’t have to provide more. A valid USA passport card that is not expired is also valid to use as a stand alone document. They WILL TURN YOU AWAY IF YOU DONT FOLLOW THESE RULES
They want to see the Social Security Card and ID to get you enrolled for being called to work. Thats how the Company get you Started.
You cant go without those documents. If you have a green card you can use your immigration papers showing your right to work in place of a social security card.
