The children I went with seemed to enjoy the rides. One was tall enough to go on the roller coaster. He just made it. However he was a bit frightened of the dark! This same child enjoyed "Its A Small World " but his brother whose a little older signed and exclaimed not again around each bend. All three kids loved the food and meeting and photo with Mikey Mouse. The long wait didn't seem to upset them too much. Plan rest time. They did leave before the fantastic fire works so plan accordingly. Fast passes were great. They were sold out for the new starwars ride! Later in the day we stood in the wait line. I don't remember the children complain about that either! Went with friends and their family who had three children. Parents didn't seem to tired either!
Disneyland is best for kids
DisneyLand original is best with little kids. If you get a ticket with the fastpass you can prebook the rides but it really depends on how adventureous your kids are...if they are really little (like 3 - 5) most of the appropriate rides will not have fastpass availability, if your kids are a bit older then they may like some roller coaster style rides, most are pretty tame in this park. California adventure is very neat to, just not the "original" Walt experience.
Disneyland has a lot variety for rides for kids for various ages. DCA is more for older kids from 5 or 6 and up, tho they do have an awesome Mickey & Minnie show in DCA and its easier to get to get photos and meet characters in DCA. I feel like its almost impossible in Disneyland, DCA also comes with the added bonus of being able to drink and carry around your beer as you walk. Disneyland has more rides for the family, also FASTPASS is a must use for everything. Plan ahead for the rides and get your passes for those and hit the shorter rides first, make sure to download the Disneyland App. It tells you everything from times and locations, etc.
