They do allow certain bags. It also depends on what's in the bag. Some gift type items are permitted, but must go thru security checks. If it's a garbage bag size then it wouldn't be permitted.
If you take a backpack you would need to go to a screening 1st then they'll escort you to the entrance. It delays the process when you go in therefore it is better just to take a regular size bag
