Umeboshi at tokyo central has been altered to adapt to japanese american taste buds
The umeboshi they sell in Tokyo Central is the same as what they have in Japan. If you are looking for the umeboshi they had from 30 years ago where it had a higher salt content and more sour, they changed it everywhere. The only way to get the original old fashioned umeboshi, you unfortunately have to make it yourself. They say they changed it because older people were having difficulty eating it because of the higher salt content.
They have several different kinds of umeboshi there. Go check it out!!😊
Since they changed to Tokyo Marketplace, I honestly can't say. They did have a good assortment of imported Japanese goods before. Another place with high quality is Nijiya market. I know they have a variety of umeboshi and oshinko.
if you're looking for the easier umeboshi to eat, pick the ones with honey on their ingredient list. Otherwise, go with the ones come with the least number of listed ingredients, those are authentic umeboshi though they aren't that easy to eat.
It should be there, the have a good meat counter.
