Hi Shealyn, the Bread Basket receives donations from various sources, Sprouts is one of those. The way it works is by suggested donation on what they have. For example; day or older bread is 50 cents. Shelf stable items 50 cents. The items vary on what they receive. Dairy products are contingent on deliveries. Fruits and vegetables again what's on hand. You can also receive a sack lunch every time they are open and they are open Mondays and Fridays from 8 to 11. You can also receive what they call an emergency box 4 times a year only. You must have exact change. What that means is if you're purchasing $3.50 is you have to have the xact $3.50. You always have to have the exact amount. MUCH HAVE CASH ONLY.
I go there quite frequently. There's a couple of ways that it works there. You can get a free box of food, its determined by household size, up to 4 times a year. Or you can shop there. Many of the items are expired or close to expiring so understand you need to freeze or eat pretty quickly. It's true that they do not give change. If you have q $10 bill and your total was $7.75 then they create an "account" for you and put the credit in your acct for future use. You cannot get a free box of food and also shop on the same day. It's one or the other. Some times the boxes are good, sometimes not so much. Sometimes the bread has been moldy from the start so you really need to check things carefully
