It's not actually a "river" the path is on the Intercoastal.
It starts on the inTRAcoastal then takes the New River/ Tarpon River through Fort Lauderdale.
It is the New River which formed, ironically, more than 500 years ago after an earthquake which released and underwater fresh water aquifer. It is also the narrowest, windiest navigable waterway in the world according to Ripley's.
