How is the forest service road leading to the trailhead these days? I'm thinking of driving a sports sedan (so fairly low ground clearance) there. Bad idea?

Go slow to avoid potholes and you will be fine.

As long as you drive slow on the gravel and go in summertime you will be fine. There really aren't too many potholes. I saw plenty of front wheel drive sedans going up there two weeks ago. 👍
