My husband says he used to hang out here in 1977-79 and it was already full of shops and such just like it is now.

The actual peer itself is about 70 years old but it was developed into a shopping centre/ tourist attraction and its current state in October 1978. The seals turned up just after Loma Prieta earthquake hit San Francisco in October 1989. There have been times when the seals of completely disappeared but in general there are a few hundred around I think the record number of seals counted on the dock once was around is 1700 it must've been a busy day or lots of great white sharks in the water :-)
