Issues like you described for ordinary wheels are entirely up to the individual mounting the tires. I haven't heard of any issues like that with this shop. Though ordinary tire shops like this involved direct contact between equipment and rim during mounting. But the contact point is behind the face of the rim. However, the tire itself is dragged across part of the face in the process. So any minor contaminant will scratch or gouge. If you have custom rims or have an acute attention to detail, stick with a custom car shop to handle mounting.
