We also wondered about this and read that China loans giant pandas to zoos with the stipulation they retire back in the "motherland." None are there now, but they are supposedly working together to bring in more at some point.
They still have the panda habitat but there are no pandas currently. There are red pandas though!
I didn't see them the last time I went, but I do know they remodeled the panda area.
