I have put things in the bottom of my carry-on bag (no liquid).
I've seen TSA agents throwing out baby food. No mercy!
I observed people bringing wrapped/processed food through however definitely no liquids over 100ml. Unsure about fresh food
Last I recall, no food or water that was open could be brought through. You would be better off looking for the answer to this on the TSA.gov website.
