It depends on where is the plane flying. The previous answers are valid for domestic flights. A driver's license won't get you very far for international flight. You may also need visa for some countries.

A driver's license is sufficient for domestic flights until October 2020. After that point a RealID updated driver's license is required or a passport. RealID must be obtained in person at the DMV.
