In Rec Skate, "All skating abilities are allowed on the session as long as no moves above Free Skate 6 are performed", while in Flex Skate, "All skating abilities are allowed on the session." Anyone is allowed to attempted either of the sessions.
All Public Sessions are open for anyone to come skate and general this is in the form of skating laps around the ice surface. The concept of Rec vs. Flex is more of a guideline definition for our regular skaters that are here every day. Since our Flex Public Sessions are scheduled at time when most of the community can't come (during work and school hours) then there are often less people on the ice during these times. Since there are less people we allow some of those "regular" skater more "flexibility" in how they skate on the surface during that type of session. It's still a Public open skate session for anyone who wants to come out and join us. The majority of the Public sessions time here are Rec session, which means these are only for the recreational skater and we put cones on the ice to keep the figure skaters and skating coaches in the middle of the ice for their private lessons and everyone skates laps in one direction. I hope this helps clarify just a little better......
Flex skate is designated for figure skaters only. Rec skate is open for the general public. If you ate able to attend the morning rec sessions you will have more open ice.
