There are areas of the cave that are very slick; you want traction shoes. It also is below 49degF in the cave. That said, I dont think they'll stop you. I also wouldn't want to hike to the border in flip flops, if that was an interest.
I wore my flip flops in the cave but tennis shoes would be a lot better!!

Yes but not advisable. Good gripping tennis shoes are best. Don't forget to take the short hike to the border.
